Rayner Design, Australia
Rayner Design is an owner-operated design consultancy that designs, researches and develops mechanical devices for clients in many different fields, including medical, consumer and resources. The company uses SolidWorks 3D CAD/CAM software to design products and offer its customers an advanced level of creativity, logocal analysis and experience throughout the entire product development process.
One of Rayner’s products, the Paper Cutter, was featured on “The New Inventors,” ABC TV on April 22. SolidWorks was used to design, photo-realistically display and prototype this product in Rayner’s studio. Challenges:
- Making variations to existing designs is time consuming and waste resources that could be spent on product development.
- Using 2D software to turn concepts into designs is time consuming and frustrating.
- Clearly communicating design ideas and prototypes with customers is difficult.
- Legacy finite element anlysis (FEA) software is not easily integrated with current design tools.
SolidWorks Benefits:
- A reduction of more than 50% in time taken to modify existing designs.
- Parametric modelling allows for ambitious ideas to be translated into actual designs very quickly.
- SolidWorks models allow customers to look at a product from multiple angles, see how it works and, more importantly, know what to expect when a product arrives.
- SolidWorks SimulationXpress FEA is easy to use and is integrated directly into SolidWorks package.
“SolidWorks empowers designers and engineers to do anything they want, from wild concept testing through to prototype development, production design and creating arketing collateral, without duplication of effort. I hate doing things twice and with SolidWorks I don’t have to.”
