Formway, New Zealand

Formway started as an engineering company making steel furniture for the New Zealand market in the 1950s. An injection of design in the 70s changed the focus of the company radically and has resulted in international recognition for their innovative office furniture products

Challenges:

  • Maintain market leadership by increasing product ranges
  • Streamline existing products to provide more minimalist and organic design
  • Improve accuracy and reliability of designs
  • Reduce design-change and tooling lead-times to meet with increasing product demand

Benefits:

  • SolidWorks has enabled Formway to design organic products not possible in 2D
  • With FEA, Formway can now develop minimalist designs with confidence of accuracy and reliability
  • Rapid prototyping and ability to send native CAD models to Tool Designers, has reduced existing tooling lead-times significantly
  • With SolidWorks, fully-rendered product representations can be produced that provide peace of mind, or allow the customer to select from several options.
Intercad’s ongoing support and advice enabled Formway to the develop design solution to reflect changing design needs, reducing, in one particular case, CAD and CAM design input from 8hrs to 30mins, utilising SolidWorks Design Tables

“SolidWorks has given us the ability to turn around our designs quickly, enhancing and expanding our existing product ranges and cementing our design brand in the market. We are really happy with the amount and level of support that we get from Intercad.”
